Trackball

I've been thinking about switching to a trackball after using a regular mouse for several years. I was thinking about this one, http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....104-108-04.jpg , should I go for it?

Thanks!

If possible, I'd go to a nearby comp store and try them out. That is my least favorite trackball. For long term use, I find a thumb track much easier to use.

I agree. I'd take any trackball over a mouse though.

I've used a thumb-operated trackball for over 2 years now and I like it better than anything else. I've also used a finger-operated one long enough to get used to it, but I still don't like it as well.

IMO the most comfortable one is the first Logitech Optical Trackman Wheel, which they don't make anymore. The USB version sells on ebay for $70-$90 - and that's after they're well used, when they sold for no more than $70 new. That tells you how much people like them.

This is the trackball the I have.

I love it. It was well worth every penny I spent. I bought it at CompUSA for around $50 last year. I still use mice from time to time, but the trackballs just feel better. (Note - it does take a little while to get used to it in games. Might want to keep your mouse handy for a while if you are a gamer.)

The only reason I use M$ trackball is the extra 2 buttons that the logitech seems to be lacking (back and forward) Unless it does have them?? I couldn't get a good enough picture of it to see if they were hidden somewhere.

And Thumb trackballs are less tiring and more precise(you can move your thumb more accurately then a finger in 2 directions)

Chiguy - I have the Marblemouse you are considering. I would not trade mine for any other trackball. You didn't mention if you are right or left handed. Most of the thumb based trackballs I have seen are for righties. The marble mouse is a good alternative for lefties.

Thanks for the replies!

I am right handed. I've never considered a thumb trackball. I'll see if I can try them out at a store.

Chiguy I allso have the tracball you are looking at, my only complaint is it's only 2 buttons... it is the best, well the best other than my other tracball

I duno if you play games, but that mouse is very good for gamming , specially first person shooters.. gives you a lot of aim control...

This is my other mouse, it's also a great mouse and has the extra buttons and scroll.. my only complaint on this one, is the slight angle you're hand sits at... took me awhile to get used to..

as far as the thumb tracballs.. eww I can't stand them.. i duno I just can't use them
