    I'm losing my balls

I teach at a middle school and I just receintly had about 20 mouse balls stolen.

Some of my older machines had mice that had a doughnut like sticker that covered the area that you would turn to take the mouse ball out.

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get those or what they are called. I did a search on the internet and I've had no luck at all (ie: computer mouse ball stickers)

The only problem that I forsee is that it's going to be a pain to clean the mice every trimester like I was doing before.

    Thanks

optical mice are the way to go. they're cheap, they work on almost every surface, and the best part is there are no parts that can be removed/stolen and no need to clean them!

and no need to clean them!

Which btw I think some built in obsolecence was added to the one's for sale now, the ball seems to get gummy fast and break down faster now, causeing more of a build up on the rollers and attracting dirt!

Sure it's not all those cats you've been collecting ?

When my mice get cranky, it's usually the cat's fault. Those pesky cat hairs get in everywhere!

That's my point, the optical mouse is the reason they did it so you would upgrade to it.

I remember being in elementary school and having kids in my class steal mouse balls, don't worry a lot of them will end up turning up. (Although they probably won't be useable.) I.E. - Used as projectiles to throw at fellow class mates, melted, thrown in toilets, etc.

I've have this logitech mouse that I've had since the 386 era (i think) and I've never had to clean the ball and it runs like new! I'll never give this thing up as long as it is working.

    Cyberguys has 'em!

    Replacement Mouse Balls

Good to deal with, too. Very reasonable on shipping. They've got lots of the odd small items, so look around if ordering since ship charge is by weight!

I actually found the site that sells those doughnut like stickers (seals) If anyone is interested they can take a look at

    http://www.mouseal.com/

I'm just annoyed that I'll have to use a razor to open it up and clean the mouse every trimester.

One ball turned up yesterday and the kid gave me a lead on where there might be a stash.

Who knew that being a teacher would be like being a detective!

I'm also on the hunt for this kid that keeps putting full versions of flash on the library computers... that shouldn't be hard since I log all the users that are on the computers through Novell.

Any new computers from now on will HAVE to come with optical mice.

    Thanks

I know the kids think it's a JOKE, it is not.

If you have a policeman on grounds, have him cuff the perps when caught.

Quote state code and maximum punishments for theft of state property.

Send the perp with the cop to "Visit" the jail ask him to get the inmates to jeer the kid heavily when he walks through.

After this the "word of mouth advertisement" gets around quickly.

    Doc

    Here's some optical mice for $10 ->>

Our school policy is to eliminate the students computer rights from a trimester up to a year (depending on what they did; placing porn on the background or hacking the bios).

Nowadays almost every class has an assignment in the computer lab. So having their computer privilige revoked is a big deal.

As for sending him to jail and having his salad tossed, I like the idea but it may be too much. If this becomes a big deal then maybe I'll have to have the vice principal consider Doc's idea.

I'm gonna have to say that I don't agree with this one, especially knowing a lot of kids/teenagers... There are way too many people thinking that they can just look down on us and give us no respect and treat us like s*** and expect all the respect like we should worship the ground they walk on, and then people say we have no respect when we tell these kind of people to f*** off...

*EDIT* Just figured I would add that right now I see a lot of police doing this, they figure that we should give them all this respecet when they disrespect us just as much as we disrespect them. The local police where I live, I always give them dirty looks because they've pulled me over just to yell at me..(Sometimes I do stuff, other times I don't.) They figure since they could arrest me they can disrespect me.
Well of course then adults say that the teenage generation doesn't show respect, we all show respect to people that earn or DESERVE our respect.

I work with students at a local High School, I agree w/Mike that some people in authority tend to give off these "Vibes" it is NOT always out of a superiority complex ,, sometimes they are scared.

As far as the Jail goes, I didn't say "Put them in Jail" just give em a little scare treatement, the inmates would love to scare some deliquent and that is what someone is who rips off mice rollers..
