Well, I finally bought a new PC -
Yep, after several months of debating on what to get I decided to get a dual cpu system - let me know what you think - click here for specs
Now, before we go any further,I do not build systems so there is no need in telling me how stupid I was for paying this price.
however, I would like some constructive critism on what to get next.
I ordered a Proview 18 LCD,click here for specs, for the monitor (no DVI) and a couple of 9.1 gb scsi drives for it. I would like to up the ram to 1024 but it uses DDR PC2100 ECC Registered. any ideas on an inexpensive 512mb stick of that stuff???
BTW, I do not game. I use Photoshop 7.0 and the MX Studio. any and all advise is much appreciated.
THANKS AGAIN!

I dunno, 1000$ sounds about right for a AMD AthlonMP 2000+ dually.
That should be a pretty sweet machine, especially for rendering

The system looks very nice! Good choice. The only concern I have is the video cards performance. Esp. using Photoshop 7 etc. Other than that, looks like you have a REALLY nice PC!
BTW: Correct me if I'm wrong on the video card. It may be just fine. I don't use Photoshop 7, but, Paint Shop Pro for my photo editing.
Anyway, enjoy your new monster!!!!
Looks sweet!!!!

Hello to U to edwelly. Where have you been hiding?
On the graphic card, I stand corrected. Looks like you did a good job on picking the right system.
Looks like it should run circles around my system...

actually, thats a good deal for that system
if your into photoshop I'd recommend either the Geforce 4 MX440 DDR 8x AGP. its cheap, fast, and will definately render quickly. if you play games and do photoshop, i'd recommend the Geforce 4 Ti4200. other than that, looks like a nice rig!

Geforce 3 64MB overclocked...cheaper than GF4. def go with a higher-end vid card, IMO. even if you don't game now, or think you need a good vid card, you'll appreciate it down the road.
I didn't use to game, now I can't get enough of Unreal Tournament (G.O.T.Y. ed.) and Counter-Strike.
have fun with your new system!

That vid card should be plenty good enough for what you need. If you evern do decide to game with it, you can always pick up something a little better, which by then will be a good deal cheaper.

I don't think I would've bought an expensive system like that from Tiger Direct though, but that's an issue for another thread...
On the RAM, Crucial seems to think it can take either unbuffered or registered. Regardless, the unbuffered costs $98.99 for 512MB, and the registered costs $142.99. Probably a little more than you were hoping to spend... but IMO it's worth it.
Anyway, it looks like you've pretty much got everything covered. Should be a sweet machine.

I second Endo...
The video card should be fine for what you're planning on doing. And, if in the future, you want to upgrade, then you'll have plenty of options.
You'll be rendering away in dreamland with this thing!
Have fun...
David
BTW, that is a great price for that system. Even though it's Tiger, it's not a shabby system, and should provide you with good solid(and quick) use!!

the specs on the duallie look very respectable...a decent price. tyan makes great mobos...very stable! i have 2 of their duallie p3 mobos and they are superb boards.
your choice of lcd is adequate, not great. i would shoot for a dual-display setup later if you can afford it.

Thanks a lot for all of the great advise -
PresterJohn - I agree, the LCD screen isn't exactly what I had wanted but for the money ($400 AR), it was hard to beat... I currently have 2 17" CRT's but will hopefully stay with one monitor now - well see...
