Weird boot up...
Was installing a PCI modem today in one of my machines and out of no where the machine turned on and started to boot. Lol kinda scared me a little bit, thought I may have fried something but everything seems to be working alright. Any ideas on what caused this??

You're lucky nothing did happen. I think thats why they tell you to unplug the system before you work on it.

The BIOS power setting for wake on modem might be selected.
Also a lot of mobo supprt power on via spacebar/keyboard activity

Ken: it was while i was pushing the modem down into the PCI slot, wasnt quite seated all of the way. No ghost either.
Skit: Dont know much about the layout of the board, but it was one of the bottom PCI slots, and I dont think that would be near the neccesary circuits? I dunno.
Prae: Yea yea, learn from my mistakes

Unless the actual power switch is off on the power supply, or the plug in un-plugged there is plenty of power on the mother board. The modem going in the slot glitched the bus that would carry the wake on activity from the modem. Always turn off main switch or unplug.

Usually when working on the inside of the computer, it's best to pull the power cable outta the PSU. As evereddie said, there can be times when the computer will glitch in some ways and boot up... sometimes doing nothing, sometimes frying the whole bloody thing. I've had it happen a couple of times before but not fried anything, so it's all good...

Dont know if this will help, but I used to have a Dell that did this all the time. Even when I wasnt tinkering inside the box, I blamed it on the powersupply, which was, of course, a piece of sh*t.
