formatting dell latitude

hey guys, any idea how to format a dell latitude pci (p2 400 os: xp) without using a floppy drive? ( i dont have one). I have a bootable xp cd ( i am sure of this) but the laptop wont boot from cd to format. any tricks i am missing here, just give me layout of formatting usin a bootable cd and ill see if i am missing anything, thanks guys.

check in the BIOS to make sure that your boot order is set correctly. Since you dont have a floppy for it, Your first boot device should be your cdrom, and the second should be the harddrive. Verify that and then try

well this questions me but i have tried it anyways, in the boot device settings there is d: e: and CDROM, whats the difference? ive tried all of them and they have not booted from cd

Did you save the settings when you exited. Some require you to press F10 to save the settings.
As for your question. D: and E: will refer to hard drive partitions. CDROM will mean to boot from the CD.

hey guys thanks alot it worked put great, but the whole idea of formatting was scrapped... the reason i did this was because my pcimia ehternet card (3com) didint seem to work when i overwrote win98 with winxp, i thought some of the drivers got mixed up so i decided to format, now it still doesent work after format!!!!! any ideas? any replys go to my new thread : pcimia card still not funtioning
