No, I'm not trying to dis' your cards fellas. It's just that NVidia supports Linux much better than ATi and game developers seem to support NVidia drivers much better than they do ATi's. I know the original NWN beta was for NVidia hardware only. I remember reading how it was "usually" easier to get games working in Wine and WineX with NVidia hardware in a few of the readme's I read.

That's the only reason I'm posting is becuase the thread starter asked. You can't go wrong with NVidia hardware if you're into Linux gaming - it's usually just less hassle.

I believe you..... I was serious when I said we got lucky I tried a NVidia card, and had no luck at all with it. Still not sure why....I sold it here on Techimo for a loss...........

The card I use (looking at the box now ) is an
ATI Radeon 7500 64mb AGP ........... I've used 3 of these now, all with amazing results. I usually install the graphics card and then install Mandrake. It recognises the card and it is configured with zero problems. Running UT , Quake, Chromium, and more.

I see what you mean about winex ....(I run 100% linux though...not even winex...so I'm not sure about that ... although cunokyle might have ran wine with the card) . I'm sure your right about NVidia being a better choice for gaming, I was serious when I said we got lucky I was just thrilled at how easy mine was. That and I know you and jkrohn are both more experienced with graphics cards than I am. I've used a total of 2 different graphics cards (agp) with linux, so my experience is very limited in this area.

Yeah...I remember the NVidia card crouse had tried to install...I myself will never purchase one because of his experience! ATI had absolutely no problems...crouse's NVidia...yeah right.

As for gaming...the NVidia crouse had would slow his computer to a crawl when he tried to play games. He couldn't play the games because of the problems it caused!

With the ATI Radeon...I have yet to find a game in Linux that it has problems with. I used my ATI to run WINE with no troubles at all. Again, maybe it is just Mandrake(being the great OS it is) and we were lucky to get cards that work flawlessly with it...but like I said...I will never buy an NVidia because crouse had enough trouble for the both of us!

I am letting the thread starter know that 2 of us here had no troubles with ATI...and troubles with NVidia...just a heads up for him.
