Packard Bell manual

I have a friend with a older Packard Bell. We downloaded what we hope to be the correct manual from PriorityOneSupport.com. The file comes as a self extractin zip. It extracted and ran and opened up what I think is a DOS window on my monitor. It has the message C:\DOCUME~1\student\LOCALS~1\temp\WZS79.tmp> followed by a flashing horizontal cursor.

Does anyone know what I am supposed to do here? I believe it is supposed to put the manual in the program list accessed by the Start button but nothing is there.

The OS on my machine is XP pro.

As I recall, you need to download "viewer.exe" from Priority One and install it on the machine. You should then be able to view the file (manual) you downloaded.

The viewer is located at the top of the list of downloadable Packard Bell files in the drivers - Packard Bell area at Priority One.

Hope my memory is correct.

What model of Packard Bell is it?

Did you check here to see if they have the manual as well.

I left my information at home today so I don't recall the exact PB model # of this unit but I believe the MoBo is the 600.

Thanks for the tip on needing Viewer.exe crazyray but it won't run on XP. I get the error that it cannot run a 16 bit program.

Right click the file and choose properties. Somewhere in the menu will be an 'emulation' section. Turn it on and choose Windows 95.

Redwolf, I tried what you suggested. The viewer.exe seemed to copy the files and install fine. I then went to the manual file, 600.exe, and did the same, (win95 compatability mode) and damned if it didn't hang up and give me the same original message in the DOS box that I described in my initial post. Any ideas why?
Mumble, grumble I may end up having to find an old machine with 95 or 98 on it huh? Issues like this, rare as they are, are maybe a reason to have a machine set up to dual boot.
