    XP and network bridging

Guys I'm having a problem with one of the computers we have, I think it's network bridging. The computer is going out and looking for nework connections automatically and it's setting of the alarm to the server. Any suggestions?

dont think we understand what your asking - maybe a little more info - never hurts to give the specs of machine youworking on

did you mean that it was setting the alarm as the server? if so whys your alarm wired into your network?

Ok my bad. Nah it's a pc thats plugged into the network. I think what it's doing is every half hour it's going out and looking for nodes on the network such as shared printers. It's also going to the main server and trying to search for any shared nodes or files. So the county commissioner's sys admin. was concerned that it was someone trying to hack into his system the way it was going about it. Thats why it was setting the alarm off to his server. I looked at microsofts website and I think it's the network brigding feature. They said by default when you set up the computer to the network it automatically enables network bridging which sucks by the way. Basically I was just looking for a quick fix without having to reenter all the network settings. Maybe just like a place in the options menu to just disable it.

To disable Network Bridging, Right-click My Network Places, and select Properties. Next, right-click Network Bridge and select "Disable", "Remove Bridge" or similar. If the icon grays out, then you know that it is disabled. It will also say that it is disabled next to the icon.

    HTH,

    David

I think davidamarkley answered your question but putting this the Networking and Internet forum would probably have gotten this answered yesterday.
