Audio during remote desktop

I have a question regarding the audio transmission while I am in remote desktop. I am using XP Home on my laptop. This computer (my laptop) is the computer connecting to the Desktop. It is a Toshiba Satellite w/Intel Celeron running at 1.2GHz. It has 256MB SDRAM, connected to my other desktop on a home network. The desktop is built. It is running on an AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 512MB SDRAM, SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer on WinXP Pro. I have a unique question regarding how the audio is transferred when I am connected via remote desktop. I am on a local Fire Dept./First Aid Squad and I am near a radio scanner 24/7! I have the scanner hooked into my SoundBlaster X-Gamer via a regular 1/8" microphone connection. My computer records every transmission sent into a wav file. If nothing big happened (no big calls, no fires or nothing) I dump the file. Anyway, my question is - Can I get that audio to output on my laptop when I am connected via remote desktop computer to the Desktop? I have microphone un-muted. It comes out fine on the desktop, but it will not output on the laptop. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

When you set up the remote desktop connection, go under options. There's one there for where sound on the remote machine should be played. Set that to client computer, and you should be able to double-click on the wave file to hear it.

It's my fault for not clarifying. I can hear the wav files just fine. I meant to mention that. What I want to do, is hear the audio live as it is fed through the SoundBlaster. Please let me know if you have any idea's. Again, my mistake.

Thanks,
Mike

To simplify my question - If I have a microphone plugged into my soundcard, and someone is talking into it - I want to hear that person while I'm connected to that computer via Remote Desktop Connection in WinXP. Any thoughts, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes, tell it to bring sound to this computer and you will hear whatever would normally come out of the remote computers speakers.

Yes, that does work for windows sounds, mp3's or what not, however, it will not bring through what is in the microphone jack for some reason. That's the strange twist.

Thanks,
Mike
