Laptop Suggestions

I'm supposed to help my friend pick a new laptop ... nothing fancy ... probably a P4 with a 30-40 gig hd and a burner ... she's willing to spend up to 2000 ... but the cheaper the better ... any suggestions?

I guess it would help if we knew what exactly she wanted it for.
More or less does she want a smaller ones thats more mobile, or does she want one of the "desktop replacement" juggernauts.
For the bigger ones, Toshiba Satelites, Sagar notebooks (www.powernotebooks.com). Then I guess theres always Dell inspirons, however their models of laptops don't seem all that great to me.
Sony Vaio is a decent compact laptop, but a powerful one tends to be quite expensive.

I have a Toshiba Satelite 1405S series and I use it as my primary computer, I love it!!! I had gotten it for less than 1500. Toshibas has also given me great product support as well.

My personal preferences are Toshibas, My second would be Dell.

I use mine for school, work, and home.

"Nothing fancy", but she's willing to blow $2large? For that kind of dough you can get a singing, dancing, do-everything wonder. What is she going to be using this for? If it's just school work, an $800 Dell Inspiron will work fine. Unless she's doing vid editing, high-end gaming, or image rendering, she'll be wasting a P4. For surfing, email, and word processing an Inspiron is the deal. Right now you can get a 2.2GHz Celeron with 256MB RAM for $799. With a 15% off coupon code, you'll be looking at $680.
