PC camera security

Ok... has anyone messed with any DVR (digital video recording) as far as setting up a system for security monitoring?

Ya know like these cards that have inputs for 4 cameras and such?

I want to know what companies are the better ones before I start building the new house...I want it hard wired in...

I saw one for about $500 at LinuxDevices.com. It connects via ethernet and can be mounted outside. It looks like a regular security camera. Anyway it also supports a web login interface and has its own IP.

Oh, here it is. http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS5490668192.html

Nice, but what happens when your machine is goes out?

Just kiddin. Either way you'd like to go is up to you. I feel pretty safe in my neighborhood to not put up a camera, but then again It'd be a fun project.

If its for security you're probably going to need one with night vision.
