| XP Pro and 98se on same HD??
is it possible to have 98se on a separate partition just so i can run my webcam?? prolly not hehehe my Kensington cam doesn't have XP support since they stopped making them. and i'm not shelling out more money for a webcam. i'm about to upgrade to XP...i have the 98 right now. *sigh* why does everything have to be so stinkin complicated... anyone know of an easy solution? |

Do you have a seperate partition already setup? If so you can install XP easily on a second partition and dual boot. The NTloader will let you choose which OS you boot to.
If you don't have your hard drive partitioned you'll have to look into partition magic software or something simular to resize your 98. Fdisk will wipe out your present 98 install. If you don't mind reinstalling 98 you could use fdisk to make a smaller partition for 98, reinstall 98, then install xp on what's left.

If you do reinstall, make sure you put on Win98 first.

The NT loader is what XP will install that will allow you to choose whether you boot to 98 or XP. When your machine first boots up you'll get a menu where you get to choose.

Yep, you could install 98 & XP on seperate hard drives too. It's not too difficult to set up. I have Win98 & WinXP on my primary master hard drive and Mandrake Linux on my primary slave hard drive. |

If you need to share files between 98 and XP you'll need to install XP using Fat32 not NTFS. XP will give you a choice between the Fat32 or NTFS file system during install. |

ok here's what i'm thinking.....i can ghost my 98 setup and everything to my new HD. then i can install XP to the new HD and leave the 98 setup on the old drive alone. and if i wanna share webcam picture files with my XP HD then i gotta use FAT32 when i install XP on the new drive like you said, right? would this be the easiest and best way of doing this? |
