Have you tried resetting the cable modem? This happens to my parents wireless router and it won't fix til I reset it.

Not familier with your dsl modem/4 port router, but I have a similar set up, using Linksys WAP and also their 4-port router, which is connected to my computer and the DSL modem. On my setup, I can run the router software to add other computers to the network. I have the WAP plugged into port 1 of the router, which takes care of 3 computers in our house which use the Linksys USB wireless adaptors. I have a NIC on my computer, as well as my son's computer, which runs out of port 2 and 3. We're connected with a cable, because our rooms are right next to each other. Port 4 on my router is not in use. Could I get a little more info on your setup? How are you connected to the router? What port is the WAP connected to? Did your dsl/router come with a setup disk?

Robert

I'm confused. In your first post, you said the laptop is still working fine. Is that correct? I assume your dsl modem/4 port router is a combined piece of hardware. Did you get software for it? On my system, I had to run the router software and answer a couple of questions about how I was connected to the Internet (cable or dsl). After I made my selection, the program ran a diagnostic routine and then told me my main computer was ready, and I could now add other computers to the network. And just for drill, check all your cable connections. Also, what brand is your WAP?

I'm not familiar with your dsl modem/4 port router either, as far as the linksys AP dr_roberts might be able to help you out better as I have no experience with Linksys products.

it is a linksys wap, the lappy gets a signal with it fine, but cannot get to the router, so the problem is between the wap and the router, yes teh router/dsl modem is a zyxel, there is no software for teh router and the setup software for the wap cannot detect the wap behind teh router because again tahts where the problem is, the router has to be manually set up through a com port and hyperterminal

Okay. How is the dsl/router connected to your computer? Are you using a network interface card or USB? Maybe the problem is there. Might want to re-install the NIC drivers. I would also include a modem reset. Last of all, what port on the router, do you have the WAP connected? I had to plug my WAP into port 1. That was all. The router configured the WAP automatically. I've recently had a couple of power outs, and powered everything down, including the modem, router and WAP (I normally leave them always on). When I powered back up, everything was where it should be. You said your WAP reset, and before that, everything worked. What caused the reset?

using a nic, the problem is not there, the problem is between the router and the wap, already reset the modem/router in hyperterminal, tried pluggin wap into all of the ports, this is starting to look hopeless

Do you have any other means of testing your equipment? Another WAP perhaps or router? Something is broke. Can you take the components back to where you bought them and drop in their laps? How long was it working before the reset?
