will this upgrade work

hay all another opinion thread......txs for reading
Current:
problems - in games BF and NWN mainly puter crashes and has sluggish play (setting turned down low and set at 800x600)
system - athlon 700, MX400 64meg vid card, 384RAM PC133, cable modem, win2kpro

here is what im thinking of doing.
1- buy a new vid card (RADEON 9600 Pro Ultimate or 9700 or the GeForce FX 5600)

2- gather more money (about 2 months) then go for new CPU (athlon 3000 400) new mobo, and RAM.

think this will work???
basically will the new vid card on my current system fix some of my issues (or at least enough till i get more funds granted to me LOL and i get new games HL2
txs again everyone

Actually reverse the order. That video card is not lacking that much however that processor and ram combination is horrific. Spring for the new case w/power supply, some corsiar ram, and a Barton 2500 XP Processor and you will have a great Budget system with that video card that will impress you immensely.

You'll definately notice a big difference when upgrading to one of the video cards you have listed. I had a similar system (p3 800) and noticed a big difference in NWN when i upgraded my video card from an Nvidia TNT2 to a ti4200. But in the end i upgraded the mobo, cpu and ram and that really helped alot.
