1. Good mobo
2. I would think you would want to up your speed and take advantage of the higher fsb of the mobo. With the latest versions or bios upgrade, this board will take up to a 400 fsb.
Maybe a 2500+ Barton at least.
3. Good card
4. No problems, how about a bigger HDD?
5. I prefer the Lite-On myself.
6. I prefer Crucial but depends on if you're oc'ing. Others will have a better opinion of this one.
7. Good
8. There are a lot better sound cards out there for this setup.
Check out the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
9. This is all personal preference. How about ASIII thermal paste?
Just my .02

3. ASUS V9280TD Geforce4 Ti4200 128MB 128 bit AGP 8X TV-OUT & DVI RETAIL | maybe its just me, but doesnt doom 3 run off directx 9? if so, you will need a newer card (either ati 9500+ or Geforce fx) to run it, cuz gf4's only do directx 8.1

What games actually use DX 9? Good point. I have DX9 running on a GF3 Ti500, is doesn't give me any probs. Is this wrong? |

Terk, I have a GeForce 4 card and use Direct X 9, so it is possible to use direct x 9 with a GF4 card. |

Yes you can use DX9 with any video card. You may not get ALL the little perks but its certainly (IMO) not worth an extra hundred bucks or whatever for a few extra pretty pixels.
Its not 'optimized for dx9'

I think the references to DX9 were meant to imply that only the newer cards that he listed will make use of the new features that came with DX9 (Special graphics effects). If you have an older card it shouldn't hurt to install DX9 (and with many games it will be required) but you won't have access to those new features.
EDIT: Yeah, what Vass said

That's the point about doom 3, this game will be using features of direct x 9.
You can still run doom 3 with a decent card, but this game was supposed to be using the full features of direct x 9.
So it's basically your choice, as right now doom 3's leak had to have a high end system to run and my geforce 4 ti 4600 could barely get away with fluid motion. Tho the game wasn't optimised and will run much better when you see it as beta(which the e3 leak was in alpha), or a demo or the final release.

That's true Jeordie but are those new features of DX9 worth all the extra expense? Not to me... |
