excellent point

anyways, i would build my own insted of getting a dell . homebuilt is cheaper and faster. also like many hear have said, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you build your own computer.

I prefer the home built way because with the right knowledge and advice, you can configure the system to your needs not what demographics and marketing tell companies what "most" people want/need. Also, it makes it somewhat easier to troubleshoot hardware issues when you know exactyl what is in the system from top to bottom and how it was installed and configured. Plus the knowledge you can gain by any difficulties you encounter can be invaluable experience. Can't ignore the pride and satisfaction, as well as bragging rights, that others have mentioned of it taking off when you've done it all yourself. Anyways, seems like prebuilts can't be tweaked quite as much or upgraded as far as home builts. Plus those dang mini towers that most value systems come in are a pain to work in, anyhow ......... hate having to unbolt the power supply to add ram.......

Not sure what the problem with Logitech mice are though.....I have 2 wireless opticals and a corded optical that all work great....

That was a brilliant reason to not get a Dell, sunxiaol. Why didn't I think of that.

The dumb reason, "if you're not a gamer" is retarded. Why can't a Dell play games as good as a "custom" pc?? I don't get it. Anyway, I just bought my 3rd Dell several weeks ago and am more than happy with it. I don't like screwing around with computer problems and don't have the time/desire to build my own. Besides, it really WAS cheaper than building my own...where else do you get a free upgrade to a DVD-RW/CD-RW combo drive ($150 normally on Dell...much more if bought OEM) and a free upgrade to a 19" monitor ($160 normally on Dell). Try getting that stuff OEM.

You can get killer deals on Dell, just wait...changes weekly, sometimes daily.

I mean.. I know you know the mobo and all that is quality, but if you upgrade/get a new system in 2-3 years anyway, what's the real difference between a self-built system vs. a Dell? If you're not a hard core gamer, is it worth the difference in price?

Hey Im a 1st time builder... building is definately better than buying... you actually know what parts your putting not just some generic stuff. and its cheaper

building has its cons too (for me at least)... tech questions arise... but with TECHIMO, have no fear, everybody will help you here

Dell? if you go Big Box why not go Gateway? we have pulled most of our support back out of India for Phone support. they do all of our Online support now so you don't have to talk to them, plus we are cheaper than DULL.

There's nothing WRONG with Dell. They just charge a lot of money. Most people on this board feel they can get the same or better for a lot less money.

The advantage of Dell: You can throw them the downside. But you do pay for it. Being expensive isn't a crime. It just costs money.

lots of major comp co's use rebadged logitechs.

you only pay more for it if you dont know where to look. a 2ghz P4 /w 256MB ddr and 30gig 7200rpm hd + AGP gfx and WinXP can be had for $300. most of the time you get free shipping, and sometimes even a free memory upgrade.
