It does sound like an overheating issue that i used to have. System specs, and does it do the same thing with the side of the case off?

download Aida32 and install it... under the "Motherboard" tab should be a "Sensor" option...click on that and it will show your cpu and motherboard temps...post what they are, and what your specs are as far as cpu speed, how many case fans what your computer consists of in general....will be much easier to diagnose problem.

Either that, or there may have been software included with your system that will do the same thing.

With windows Me there seem to be more software conflicts than with any OS I have seen. This can cause these lock-up's. Try cleaning or defragging you registry, you can get some utilities like Win cleaner or System Suite 5 that work very well. You should also be able to go back to point when everything worked, like in XP.

Have you checked your CPU fan??
Have you cleaned out the dust onyour heatsink?
What CPU do you have?

If it says you dont have a fan, it means that its not connected to your mobo. And to disagree with buzioid, if the CPU fan wasnt operational, then the system wouldnt POST, so he would be having a much more serious problem than this.
