the only time , that I am down - is when we have a wind storm or something like that - one AT power supply keeps gettin flaky when that happens.
Fans - you bet - one room - three machines - too many fans - drowns out the mosquitos though.

I have kept my desktop running 24/7 for about the past 3 years. Only time it is down is for maint/repairs/upgrades/reboots. Oh, and once I shut it down to bring over a friends house for LAN party. I turn off the monitor and speakers when I am not using it and have the box on UPS/surge protector

There are several things to consider.
1. If you leave your computer on 24/7, you should have at least some sort of surge protection for the computer.
2. If you want you could go to an inexpensive UPS, for everything.
3. The cost of electricity vs. the cost of system replacement.
4. Also, if you run 24/7, you need good venting.
I have four systems at home. I leave my NT server on 24/7, except for servicing. The other 3 I turn off completely. My server is on a UPS, and has two additional fan for cool.

I leave both my computers running during the day. The only time I ever shut them off is when I am going out for the day, or when I am going to sleep. |

Some motherboards support the Ctl-Alt-Backspace "suspend". Your box is still on, just uses alot less juice. Mouse movement (if monitored in the BIOS setup) will wake it up. |

When I'm not home I shut it off and kill the main power panel!
I would rather be safe than sorry!...
