There's no need to shut it off, but it is a good idea to restart the system to force it to repost, retest ram, check plug and play, make sure hdd is still detecting, clear hung sessions in RAM, etc. every so often (..maybe at least once a week).

Wether you decide to power down or not every day, just as everyone has mentioned above, a good surge protector is a must. Make sure all items (monitor, PC, modem phone cords, any AC/DC adaptors that power PC devices) are plugged into the surge protector.

Well as I can't stand the sound of the machine on at night in this room I turn it off at night. However I switch it on in the morning even if I am not really going to use it much and don't switch it off till I head to bed. No point switching it on and off all day.

If the machine was in another room I'd leave it running all day. At least then it works when I sit down to it rather than waiting for it to start up

I think the question was,
Quote:
Is it bad to shut down and unplug your computer when you are done using it every time?

And the answer is no.

I just press the sleep button on the keyboard and use the mouse to wake it up when I need to use it.
