I used to get this error when I only had a half duplex sound card, do you know what model of sound card you have?
(you can find it in control panel, system the driver manager section) |

OK, as you stated in your PM, it's an AC97 codec, Which I would assume is full duplex
Have you tried closing programs one at a time and see which one resolves the problem.
Sorry, I use Win2k, and it doesn't have issues with using multiple channels.
Also, things should be left in the threads as it helps others who search for a similar problem. |

Computers are not always simple, and in the world of Windows, Errors are quite cryptic (i mean how hard is it to say what program is using it)
Ok, I'm assuming you are using Windows 98/me (since I have yet to see this error in Win2k/XP).
If you press Ctrl-Alt-Del simultaneously you will get a list of programs that are running, from there you can end programs, the only ones required to run the system are explorer and systray, keep eliminating tasks until you audio works, and make note of which was the program that was using the audio. |
