Can Monitor effect performance of Computer?

I am wondering, Can a monitor effect the performance of a computer? I am inclined to think No because a monitor is basically an output source for the computer.

Just curious

In what way affect ?

The only thing that comes to mind is the frame rate, if the monitor is old then you will not be able to run games at a sufficiently high rate to use them properly.

You are right. Well, unless you are trying to do something and the monitor is dead.....that will affect your performance..... If it is an older VGA monitor....you might not be able to push it with a newer card....as the monitor will not handle the mode of your video card.

I am just wondering cause I been using a old 15 in. NEC CS500 for about 2 years and I just changed to the Flat Panel CG150AT/ATA Monitor and I seem to think it has increased the speed of the web pages loading or refreshing or whatever. Seems to run much smoother than my old tube monitor. Still using the same old vid card. So I was just curious. I haven't done nothing to the box itself, only changed monitors.

LOL Go figure!

I just got a new monitor for Christmas, I hope it doesn't affect how my computer is running because of the price of some monitors.

It might have to do with how each work and process the signal...

chances are by replacing your old monitor with your new, it has allieviated some of the "bottleneck" the old monitor presented. Pretty much every video card made in the last few years or so were capable of performance that an older monitor wouldnt be able to do. Therefore switching to the new monitor which can do more allows you to see more of what your video card can actually do.

That is intersting, never thought about the 'bottleneck". Not that I noticed it with the old monitor but I do see a differnece in the new one.

Wonder what kind of performace gain I am going to get with a new vid card in the near future?

One I am currently using has only 8mb on it. Old. LOL But still works like a charm, will save it for one of the fixer upper old computers.

you will probably see some performance increase, not much in the 2d area, but a nice significant amount in the 3d applications and games area. If you can do 'smooth scrolling' (enable said option) on a complex web page in IE, and get scrolling that 1) doesnt lag behind your scrolling actions and 2) is liquid smooth with not even the slightest choppiness or skipping then you are pretty close to having the highest 2d performance a video card can offer.

Its probably in the drivers. Windows depends on the drivers to utilize the monitor in the best manner.

I noticed a big improvement with the same monitor merely bu downloading and installing the latest manufacturer drivers
