| Symantec Ghost V7.0 or Compaq Armada 100s
Hello, I'm pretty desperate here! Here are the stats:
1) Compaq Armada 100s Win 98SE
2) Linksys PCMIA NIC (using packet driver, companies OEM.inf does not allow for NDIS 2 driver)
3) Syamantec Ghost V7.0
All right can connect the two indentical computer. No problems there.. The problems comes when it read it will take 300 hours to clone, it is like the either 1) master ain't feeding, or 2)slave ain't eating
I wonder if ti is a problem with Comapq, I have read some where you need to use certain switches to get it working correctly, but can not find one specific that I should use.
Please, any info would be great, so again PLEASE!!!!!!

Confused a little about how you are connecting the two computers. Is it through a switch or hub, or are you using a cross-over cable and connecting the two machines directly to each other?
Often I have noticed this type of problem when using ghost over a network, and the network speed settings not matching. For instance, NIC might be configured (or using a driver) at 10mb half-duplex setting, while hub port was set to use 100mb full-duplex setting. While it worked, it took over 20 times longer than when the network settings were matched. Its something you might want to look into.
As for command line switches used in Ghost, perhaps this web page can be of assistance: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...&osv=&osv_lvl= |

The computer are connected over the LAN. The switch is at 100MB, and the line speed is 100MB. I have tested other PC's and have hit 200 MB p/s.
I've been working on this for days. What I think I have figured out is this: 1) this computer needs MS-Dos mode in Ghost to work (PC-DOS does not boot) 2) This means I need the NDIS-2 driver.
I was using a packet driver, because the Linksys disk does not contain the *.Dos driver needed. The readme refers to a file CP200.sys as the NDIS driver. That does not work. In other read me files, it refers to a file PC200.DOS, which is not there. The only drivers I can find only support the PCMPC100 model, nto the 200 model.
I am on Linksys to get me this file, but they are currently ignoring me.
I called support, and all they sent was a file, that I all ready had three days ago. I told them what file I was missing, and I guess they just assumed it was there.
What do you think?

I have used ghost a ton...once in a while I run into similar problems..but I have never done it over a lan like that. I have just had the problem on certain motherboards.
I never bothered trying to find a fix I would always just take the hard drive to another machine and clone it there.
If you have a 2.5" to 3.5" converter you could do a 2 step thing.....pull the hard drive from one armada..clone it to a spare hard drive....then pull the drive from the second armada and clone TO IT.
Or, do the armadas have cd burners?? you could just put the image from the good one on cd.

That would be nice, but it can not be that way. The master plan is this:
We have a field staff of over 250 people. I work in the Dairy industry, so those computers go to barns. Computers + Barns = Lots of broken computers! So we have a warranty package. We send them off to compaq, they restore, and fix them. We are talking about 5-8 a week.
What I am going to do is, store an image file on a partition, then when the Computer comes in, restore the image.
Right now it takes about an hour, of insereting CD and installing everything, with Ghost I should be able to get that down to 20 min or so.
So what I am doing currently is just fixing the bugs. So that we can have as a routine.
Did that make any sense? I hope so! |

yeah..sounds great.
Ghost is killer..probably my fave 3rd party thing. Id be dead without it sometimes. I like to use it while troubleshooting sometimes too. Just ghost the comp before you work on it...then you can be "fast and loose" while trying to fix it and if you mess up...ghost back and try again, lol. Or if the person cries about something...you can say "no problem Mrs Schlemenski, Ill just put it back like it was when you brought it in with those 7 viruses."
I sell some Dell optiplex GX1's and after a while I smartened up and just made a nice master build (w98se) and keep it on two ghost cd's. SO now my builds take like 10 minutes, lol.
If I were you Id comb nortons site and google looking for clues....or possibly see if you can get it to fly through the usb ports perhaps?

I have combed, Google, MSN, Symantec, Linksys, and too many others. I did find one cool site, Barts Boot Disk!! That would be perfect, except the card I'm using is newer, then it should be. Because everyone has the old drivers.
USB is my third option, my second option is a different PCMCIS card, one that ghost all ready has a template for!
But you know it is always good at performance reveiw time, to pull off a small miracle!!
I have to remember the to start ghosting Computers I work on, I knew you could do it, but I never thought is someone complained, I could just give them back there virus!! That would show 'um!!

yeah, its like magic...or a circus performers safety net.
Also...when you build/sell/repair one...make a ghost cd of it in its perfect condition before it goes out the door.....they call you back in 2 weeks with it all messed up....no problem, quick $25-50 "restore" job.
