How many of you will admit to being compulsive upgraders?

I am!!!!! I haven't had my new Altec speakers a week and I'm already wanting something better. They are great speakers, but not the "best" I can afford. Not to mention all of Doc's deals. Often times I have no real need for some of his deals, but I find myself wanting it ' because it's a great deal'.
I want it bigger, faster, and more up to date. But truth be known, what I have is far better than most people have and usually works just fine. Just an expensive hobby I guess.

no... i'm not compulsive. i want stuff, but there's like no huge need for any of it, my machine works relatively great.

I used to be

I used to get best value, and then want better performance.

Then I bought top of the line, so i wouldnt want better performance, but then ended up killing my budget before the best became second best - That didnt work either.

I just found other things to do in order to curb the complusiveness.

It's been working so far - 933Mhz and cruising along happily.

Well, after 174 hours at my NeuroPsychologists office I've come to terms with compulsive buying.

Just tell yourself,

" I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sI'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it, I'm gonna sell it,

Then when you add up and realise that you've spent $47,000 on misc computer stuff and sold $2450.00 you know that your tax accountant will be happy you've got such a huge DEDUCTION

In some areas I do tend to be compulsive, NO question about it. But my sense of patience and $$$ tend to keep me in check.

Up to a point that's probably true, but only when I can afford it. Worse than Doc, I tend to give stuff away to folks who really NEED a computer (or whatever). Trouble is, when I'm dinking with the computer world, I'm never happier than when I'm up to my elbows in the guts of one, armed only with my wits, a screwdriver, and four well-chosen cuss words.

To complicate things, I'm also a musician and audio engineer. Priced out any really primo American Made guitars or amps, or the latest whiz-bang keyboard rig? And let's not even get into the instrumentation-grade test equipment. It gets bad. Fortunately, the need to balance all of this, coupled with a finite wallet, helps to keep it all kind of in balance....kind of.

I'm happy with the computers I have right now. They do everything I need to do at the right speed. Plus, I can't afford to be out buying new stuff every month.

I've found that Linux has satisfied my tinkering needs. There is always something to do with Linux. Yesterday I compiled Apache to run with mod_perl, MySql, Postgresql and PHP all to get a neat application to run I found on Sourceforge.

only every 3-6 months.
I try to plan ahead, and then buy something a few months old anyway, so the money goes further.

I'm planning my next purchase around July, have to wait for this one.
I'm gonna get a dual AMD for home, so its gonna be a little more money than in the past.
And Im not going for cheap, so I have to save.

But, it also depends on selling this old house, and getting a new one too, so time will tell.....

Need a bigger house for the computers.......

HAH! I thought this thread would say..
How many of you admit to being communists! Doh!

ME Upgrade?

No way, I just get new parts for new boxes and keep the old stuff for UD too!
I like to buy old stuff, it meets my needs and I get twice as much.
