Powerfull psu 400watts constant-under $60!
Alot of psu questions lately. I even emailed Tom's H asking to add this one to his great psu round up. We'll see if I even get a return email-LOL. Its the vantec ION 400BB. At $56 at the egg. Its a great deal. Since most dont know of it in comparison to say Antec and others. I figured I'd give a general heads up on this series.

There's one of hundreds of great reviews listed at google.
"What the results do show is some fluctuations on both PSU's. What it doesn't show is that the PowMax PSU gets very hot. The Ion does not seem to exert even half as much heat in stress testing. The noise from the Ion is practically nonexistent due to the thermal regulation of the fans through circuitry. I only did the "Extreme load" test just out of curiosity. Also, what the graph doesn't show is that the Ion is relatively more stable when it comes to keeping a voltage at the desired voltage specification. The PowMax voltages jumped around a lot more, which you can tell by the odd ball 3.5 volts on the 3.3 volt line. The PowMax however, is in my personal workstation, (PIII 1 GHz) which I reluctantly removed for testing, and did not want to blow it up in a potentially "Extreme load" situation. Voltages are generally the same on my system from what we see above in relation to the PowMax."

"The Ion also comes complete with an additional AC outlet, which may come in very handy for many different peripherals. The Ion weighs in at almost 6 lbs, which usually denotes excellent construction in power supplies. "
Lets just say I love mine. I have had it for about 2 or so months and its been a great unit. Very cool and quiet just like they say. As for the load. I'm running
Radeon 9800
Barton 2500+ @ 3000+ (mem is holding me back-grrr)
2x256mb Kingston pc2700 in duel mode
Asus A7N8X deluxe (power hog-lots of features onboard)
Western Digital 80gig 8mb cache HDD (800JBLE series, 2 platter)
USR 56k modem
Tv tuner card
Pioneer slot drive dvdrom
Sony CRX175-E2 Burner
Firewire & plenty of USB devies used!
So if anyone is considering or in the need of a new psu, I would recomend you atleast take a look at the Ion series by Vantec. Its alot of bang for the buck! These units have a 3 year warrenty too I believe, and the manual says garunteed to never melt wires-burn or smoke excesivly like others do...*my other psu made me nearly broke with all the ciggs it smoked-LOL bad j/k.*

Thanks for the info, Xtreeme. I've been looking around for different supplies for my new box. This looks like a winner.
