Anyone Having prob's with Norton AV ?
Lastnight I turned off my computer and It said at shutdown that Norton was having problems shutting down and gave me the option to "End Now".
I did so and thought nothing of it till this morning when Norton SW took about 5 minutes to load in the tray and for the first time it loaded to the right of everything.
I did an update which was about 3meg and now everytime I reboot Norton will not shut down unless I manually shut it down and it takes over 3 mins to load and loads to the right.
I called a friend to ask if he knew anything and he tells me he has been fighting all morning with Norton to the point where he had to actually re-install.
Seeing if this might have to do with a corrupt Live Update from yesterday and if others are experiencing the same ?Last edited by BFsoLo.; January 8th, 2004 at 12:49 PM.

Yes, I'm !!!!!!!!!!
All our computers in the office are wacky
Did Norton tell him to reload, or did he do it on his own?
Did reloading fix the problem?
Did he simply unistall from the control panel, or reinstall the entire OS?Last edited by PeterGriffin; January 8th, 2004 at 02:06 PM.

I have heard of poeple running NAV that have had similar problems as a result of a setting within NAV. There is a setting to scan the A: drive that, if checked, can keep windows from shutting down properly. I can't tell you exactly where it is as I do not run NAV anymore, but perhaps someone else here could.

It seems like the uninstall has caused him even more issues.
With mine, It just asks to End Now everytime I reboot and then Norton takes forever to load in the tray. But he is having allll kinds of new issues with since he re-installed Norton and now he thinks he has to format.
Wish I knew if this was an issue with yesterdays Live Update ?
I sent a letter to Symantec and am waiting for reply.
I'll let you know.

Well, you're right in thinking it is NAV. I unintalled it and things seem to be working just fine.
Prior to uninstall, all programs would take forever to load, if I right clicked on a file/folder in win explorer it took forever for the menu to come up.
But now I fear reinstalling NAV because I don't want this problem to come back.
What do I do?

January 8th, 2004, 04:01 PM #6DITTO!!! Just started happening last night if I recall...was pissing me off something fierce too! Plus, NAV kept trying to connect to the net on its own every few minutes...the ol' firewall was lighting up constantly.Originally posted by PeterGriffin

I have NSW2003 running with NAV2004 installed...thinking about going back to NAV2003 as well, never had problems with it.

Nav 2004 is a known system HOG..I had trouble with it not updating correctly. Now I have no problems. Started using Trend Pc-cillin.

I just intalled Trend-Micro on one of our computer to see how it would work out. It seems pretty good. I've never used it so I don't know how reliable it is.
I had NSW2003 w/ NAV2003 bundle w/ it and I have never had a problem in the past.
Is there maybe a MS hotfix this is conflicting with?
I guess for now though I will be saying goodbye to NSW / NAV.

yup, 04 is a hog on resources. I have had better luck with 03 and the corp versions. I have always stuck with norton's but since I didn't like 04, I figured it was time for a change.

We use the Corp ed. here and on occasion the program wacks out. It'll take up all the CPU time and thus causes severe slow down. You can check it in Task Manager and you'll see the CPU time is 99%. Removing it then reinstalling always fix the problem for me. Reinstalling without removing it first doesn't work.

Same here, runing Win XP and Norton Antivirus 2002. After an update yesterday Norton is not shutting down when I shut down my computer. It pops up saying that it is shutting down, and if I end it early I will loose info. Not having any other problems that I have seen so far. Must have been something in the update.

I have my other computer running nav 2004 pro, and my main box is running symantec antivirus 8.1.1 corperate edition.
I have not had any problems with the other box with no problems
However a buddy of mine was recently getting lots of problems with norton av 2004 pro. It is a resource hog for sure, i don't know why the ccapp.exe is always calling out either, it shouldn't unless norton has gone with spyware.
Had anyone updated their liveupdate as well?

January 8th, 2004, 05:50 PM #16just change this setting to low...(make sure to leave the "CPU ..." box checked, then hit save.) it should run at a lower priority now. but its gonna take forever to finish a scan...Originally posted by Ebisoba
