good inexpensive program to help me make good pics for links and flash

here are my goals:
-make pictures for links on my website not just plain letters
-have the program capable of making a good flash simple to do (not retarded simple but not much text based commands like HTML or SQL is what i mean)
-this program should be cheap. not one of those $300 ripoffs.

any ideas?

i'd look at paint shop pro 7 from JASC software, they even have a free demo version to try out!

Another vote here for Paint Shop Pro. It doesn't do Flash, but Animation Shop that I got with it is great for making animated gifs. I think that only Flash does Flash.

There I go showing my complete ignorance about Flash. Right after I posted here I looked at my inbox and there's an ad for another program that does Flash too.

Speaking of heads being cut off, here's an example of something I did a couple of years ago using Paint Shop Pro:

dude you would not BELIEVE how how cracks there are for paint shop. my buddy took a screenshot of a page with like 40 of them lol

i won't use them though because the trial version USUALY has spyware in it so they know a little something about who is using it. once i kept uninstalling and reinstalling some shareware then 1 time it just flat out told me "this program no longer works" after going about 5 months over the trial period lol

Something you might try for headings on your websites is Ulead's Cool3d. Link to come later. I'm not a "pro" at PSP yet, so it might be able to do everything that cool3d does; I just don't know how to do it yet.
