Got a second? Logo Design
I have a softball team that needs a logo and I thought there may be some on this board that would enjoy a simple project. I have not the talent to achomplish the goal.
I have attached a sample of something similar that I found.
Once open you will see what I discribe as a sheild. I would like this shield to be the state of Arkansas.
The bat behind the shield that points to the top right corner I would want removed.
The softball I would want to represent the city location we are from. We are from N.W. Arkansas (Bentonville) so we would need the ball in the top left corner of the state.
The team name is the Bentonville Blast. I thought it might be neat to have the other bat looking like it hit the ball and created a explosion or blast.
Then where it says RIPTIDE we would put blast and under it in smaller letters put Bentonville AR.
Does anyone want to help on this?
Thanks
Kevin

I happened on this site with a question, then figured out the answer while I registerred..

I'm not the hottest Graphics maker myself, (self taught.. still in progress.) but since no one else had tried it, I thought I'd give it a shot for you.
BentonvilleBlasts.png

I'm not sure if the explosion should be the way I made it, or if it should be a single color for ease of recopying..
Let me know.
PS, The image should have a transparent background... but since I saved it as a PNG, image transparency doesn't work well with Internet Explorer. if you need it as a gif let me know.
PPS.. I still wasn't completely happy with the explosion, so I tried something else that I thought might work better for you.
adding it now.

My original is much larger, so if you need larger than the sample you linked to, tell me what size.Last edited by daedreem; January 22nd, 2006 at 10:56 PM. Reason: Added Info

What format do you need it in? Also when did you need it? I do some graphics art at my job and can put something together for you tommorow. We have tons of clipart books with vector images at work that I can throw something together for you.

eps is the best format.
daedreem, I thank you for your time. Looks better then I could have done.
BTW team colors are Navy, Sky Blue, White and Silver/Grey.
Here is what we have now. I know it is different then what I ask for but this is all I could find.
Thanks again for both of your interest.

NICE I like using the "blast" deal in it. SUPER! that helps bring the two together perfectly!
Thoughts:
Maybe if we did something closer together like the attachment. Maybe drop the City, state down and make the state transparent to show the bat, and have the blast lined up like it was where the ball hit and have the ball at the spot shown. Also a girls softball is yellow with red stripes.
Thanks!! Thanks!! Thanks!! That is a BIG help.

That looks SWEET!!!!
I shortened the bat and made it look like it hit from the "blast" part.
Added some stuff to make it busier. The text I added doesnt look indepth enough.
Would you be so ever kind to fine tune it once more? It is looking great and I think the group will love it!.
Could you?

January 23rd, 2006, 08:51 PM #10I just wanted to say "nice job" on creating that logo daedreem. Obviously the next guy totally swiped your idea and ran with it. But I guess that's to be expected when offering work open and freely like that. None-the-less, your work was an excellent beginnings of a great logo.

Thanks OuTpaTienT, I appreciate the compliment!

I spent entirely too long making what I did, I have no clipart to use like dlh.
(I found a map with no copyright notice on the internet that I converted into a bordered image)
I'll probably still keep making a go at requests when I see them.. there's another forum where I've made banners for people every now and then.. I figure the only way I can learn is to do them, and hopefully get some creative criticiszm, and end up with what the person wanted.
Even tho I'd already figured out what I originally came here for by the time I finished registerring, I went through and read some stuff... I enjoyed your explaination of why not to use JPG format, and made a mental note to myself...
So, thanks not just for the compliment, but also the useful information!.

If it wasnt for Pitching leasons I would have posted already.
Thanks to both of you for the help. I am sorry to have this end on a negative note. It was a caring attitude that both showed to try this with no compensation in mind.
Props to the both of you!.

January 23rd, 2006, 10:29 PM #13First off I didn't swipe his ideas. He did post the first image. But that was after empirekevin allready stated what he wanted. I took everybit of art I did with the tools I have at my job with the exception of the "Blast" part, that was created from the existing logo empirekevin provided. So that my friend is my own. empirekevin kept posting on some changes he wanted so I did what he asked for. Whats wromg with that. I was just trying to help someone out.Yeah I know it's not the best and I'm still learning when it comes to graphics but come on give me a break dude. I guess everyone has a right to there own opinon.

And I realize DLH was making what you wanted, not copying off me.
Since we're both working from the same request, they had to be similar, and I just somehow lucked out and used grey in the state, before you mentioned grey as a team color!
coincidences happen.. lol
The only thing I would request from you, even tho I do not need to continue correcting the image I made, is just that you let me know what you like/dislike about mine so that i can use the feedback to improve in the future.
BTW, DLH...

January 24th, 2006, 04:32 AM #15My apologies. I overlooked the request he made that he wants the bat diagonal from lower-right to upper-left. I just saw that you both had the same configuration for the bat and thought it was too similar to be a coincidence. I should have paid more attention before accusing you of swiping anything dlh75. I'm sorry for that.

Now that I'm fully aware of the situation I think you both did an excellent job. I don't typically respond to these type of threads because I don't want to encourage them. But daedreem's initial logo was impressive enough that it prompted me to comment.

I think there were 2 things that I liked about dlh's

I thought yours was fine but agreed on the blast part not fitting just right.
But you know, I again want to thank the both of you because a 14 year old girls softball team does not produce profits. We were blessed enough to get a sponsor but that only goes toward necessities. I would not, and have not ask anyone to do a logo for free for any of my business ventures but am very happy that the both of you tried to help and now the team can use the $100 that it would have cost to do this toward furthering their talents in the hopes of getting scholarships for college.
