| converting psp files to psd
Hey guys, my influence on my workplace has finally paid off, i always use Photoshop for my stuff and everyone loves the work i produce, but im an IS person not a marketing person so they finally sprung for Adobe's CS2 suite, which is perfect, since im always using Photoshop and Illustrator to do my stuff, i'll just be teaching for the first few weeks or so. Our marketing person tho, has many PSP (Paint Shop Pro) files that she wants/sorta needs to bring into photoshop so she doesnt loose them, since thats what she was using before Photoshop, any suggestions on how to open them with Photoshop or convert them?
thanks

| AFAIK, GIMP supports both formats. Not a great solution for converting a large number of files, but should be fine for a few important files.

Rob's idea might be a good one, but the first link was a freebie plugin, I have no idea if it works or not andI don't have any psp files to check it on. But I'm sure Out will be around soon and can give some other suggestions.

thanks, for now its not like a bulk of files, its just when we run across them while using the new computer with Photoshop.. if we need it, it has to work |

I don't have any better suggestions than what has already been given. I don't deal with .psp files routinely so I have no need for such a utility.
The obvious first choice to try is Irfanview. It's free and easy to use so why not try it? Next in line would be the first link that Rich posted (the Photoshop plugin thing). Looks like that may support alpha channels and some other aspects of .psp files that Irfanview may not.

You can do a batch conversion in PSP and save them as a PSD.
Open PSP
File -> Batch Conversion
It will keep your layers.
FYI I'm using PSP 6.02
Best of all you can do bunch at once, Don't know how many but just click and sit back and get paid.!!
