PS - No Colour Just Difference Shades of Grey

I'm trying to apply some colour to some text in Photoshop, but all Im getting is different shades of grey, I think an option might be selected somewhere, but I dont know what and where?

Anyone know what Im talking about?

Sounds like you've got the image mode set to grayscale

Drop down 'image' then 'mode', change it there.

Yep, most likely they are correct, you are in grayscale mode. Switch it to RGB mode.

Yes..most likely you are in gray scale. Is this a image or text that you have downloaded from another site. If so...you may wanna check the format because sometimes when a person saves an image in gray scale, it will remain in that format even when opened up in a new window. If this is the case, "CTRL"+A to select the whole image, then "CTRL"+C to copy. Go to file and open a new window..make sure the color value is set to RGB then click okay. "CTRL"+V to paste you image..and viola...you can now edit in color.
