Paint Shop or Photo Shop??
Do you prefer Paint shop or Photo shop and why?
Do you use Photo shop because you have a warez copy of outrageously priced software, or because you feel like you're living in Beverly Hills with it or do you think it's better?
Why do you like Paint Shop better?Last edited by surreal; September 14th, 2007 at 06:32 AM.

I like Photoshop better. It is probably due to the fact that i started off with Photoshop way back in the day when it was semi-affordable and now use CS3 in the computer labs on campus. I feel that it is unmatched when it comes to digital photography editing (especially with HDR). I also use it for any graphic design work I need since I don't usually work with vectors and I have a decent grasp of how to use it.
I don't like signatures.

They are very different programs.
I personally prefer PSP simply because its one hell of a lot faster doing the things I need it to, and its more easily customizable and its laid out a lot more logically than PS.
Its also a LOT cheaper.
There is nothing I require an image editing app to do that it can't accomplish (usually easier and faster) compared to PS.
Having said that, PSP9 was the last good version. JASC had just been bought by Corel and had yet to be destroyed.
PSP10 and 11 are just dreadful, I guess following the traditional path you see again and again whenever corel obtains a good company.
At first it stays good, then they do crazy shit, generally to do with making it easier to use and more cuddlier and in the process they utterly destroy it!
BTW, HDR is utterly useless and a fad that will hopefully run its course very soon. When done right it can be okay, but seriously, when was the last time you saw an HDR that actually looked good as opposed to some jerk with PS doing the most unsubtle crap and expecting people to drool over it just coz he adds 'HDR' in the image tag?Last edited by zybch; September 14th, 2007 at 10:04 AM.

What's HDR? Once I know what it is, I'll know when I last saw one that looked good!

High Dynamic Range

I usually use Paint.net for quick photo editing, but I have Photoshop installed for those once a month times where I need it.

if your camera is capable of taking images in 32-bit, well then you HAVE to have a program that won't discard your image data if you need to adjust your images. that's where the limited capabilities that PS has for high dynamic range images come in. of course, 16-bit is still pretty high and pretty much a standard when it comes to shooting in RAW with a digital camera.
i haven't used PSP since version 8 i think, and it was alright.
personally, i use IrfanView for most everything i do with images... i do like Bridge that comes with Photoshop for browsing images and working with metadata. and i definitely use Photoshop probably every day for touch up or just messing around with a pic. the Camera Raw plug-in in PS is just really cool cuz it allows non-destructive image adjustments like fixing lighting problems.
i just can't wait for the Nikon D300 to come out... the detail on the images it will create is amazing

Also, there is a mag now on PaintShopPro...tired of seeing all the books and mags on CS.

The reason Photoshop is so expensive is because Adobe knows the average Joe is just going to pirate it. This way they still make tons of money from collages and businesses.

My vote for image software is Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo version 12. Version 10 and 11 almoust lost me, but I gambled on version 12 when it came out and I won. Have used it since about two months after it was introduced. I also have used Photoshop, the layout is GUI. I also use Photo Essentials version 5, not as happy with that as I am with PSP ver 12.

I have Paint Shop Pro8 and Photoshop CS3. I started off with PSP and for simple editing, I find it much easier and faster to maneuver. If I simply need to resize photos for posting online or just want to add a filter effect or for digital scrapbooking, I go for my PSP. But, red-eye fix in PSP is cumbersome. PS's red-eye fix is MUCH more natural looking and fool proof. PS is much more in depth and can do soooo much more that PSP. It has a much larger learning curve as well. The good news is that there's a large number of tutorials available all over the internet that walk you through different processes for both programs. If I could only keep one, I would likely choose my PS for it's versatility. Many of the effects I like to add to my photos come out more natural looking in PS. Many of the plug-ins available will work in either program. I'm sure PSP has come along way since the version 8 I own, but I haven't used any newer versions.

Or people could just download and use the Free GIMP program, or Irfanview (for the simple Resizing of images online), Then there's things like Googles Picasa software, and various other programs out there for free that do many of the same things.
Granted Photoshop is more in depth and feature rich than most the others out there, for many of the things most users do though some of the other programs are just as good for.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Why I like Photoshop
I believe both are great and both have pros and cons. Photoshop can be use to measure microscopic objects. As soon as Paint shop brings this amenity y will start using it. It has all I need for photography at an incredible bargain price.

I'm useless on this as I've only used other programs, my pick of the litter is Corel Draw, I had version "8" which was $450~ and during the days of "Doc's Deals" I found it for $65.00
The manual for included 3 books, one was some 650 pages long.
