Lexmark x2500 and the internet
My playgroup recently bought a x2500 as it was cheap and with the abundance of sand and playdough, even the best printer isn't going to last very long here. However, I couldn't get the printer and computer to talk to each other. Having researched this, it would seem that the printer won't work without an internet connection (we don't have one) or all the items on the accompanying cd rom being loaded. Furthermore, it has been suggested that there is some spyware in the software that dictates how the printer behaves, ie telling the cartridges they're empty when Lexmark think you've had them long enough. Does anyone know anything about this and any workarounds ( particularly with regards to working without an internet connection)? And while we're on the subject, can you recommend a cheap and cheerful printer that we can use as we want and that takes recycled cartridges (apparently the Lexmark wont)

I take it I'm the only one who's got one of these, then?

Actually, I just bought one today. Considering taking it back. Did you ever find a better choice?

We got a Canon Pixma ip6220D from ebuyer, for under £30, prints beautifully (probably not good for docs as there is no separate black ink cartridge) and doesn't need a connection. By the way, anyone used Peach Snap n Print?

The x2500 does NOT need an internet connection to work.
Did you put in the CD that came with it and install the drivers? Lexmark does NOT put spyware in there products. Warning users of a low cartridge is NOT spyware. All it is doing is warning you that the cartridge is low so that you have time to purchase new catridges before those run out.

Lexmark X2500 DOES need an internet connection
The Lexmark X2500 requires an internet connection to work because lexmark monitors what you print and tells the printer you are OUT OF INK even if you have plenty of ink.
This is done so you MUST go out and buy more ink EVEN IF you still have ink.
You would be better to throw the X2500 away and buy a Canon iP2600 which is only $29.99 at Wal-Mart.

LOL! My X2500m works and installed just fine without an internet connection.
What difference does it make if you get a "warning" telling you of low ink? I use mine until it no longer prints, then I replace the cartridge. Refilling your cartridges help to save money if it becomes an issue.Unofficial TechIMO record holder for the number of times being added and removed from beemer's ignore list.

Ugh. That's poor news indeed. I wonder if I missed any OVAs or anything.
