    Ps6 & W2K

I'm having some prob with PS6 on this machine:
    Asus P3BF
    P3 450
    256Mb
    G400
    Win2k pro SP2
Up to date drivers(I guess so)

The prob is that randomly freezes to the point that the only solution is to unplug it, no Ctrl+Alt+Del,no power button nothing working!

Anybody w/similar config has experienced the same? What should I do to fix it?
    Thanks
    Puk

Hmm ...did you do the usual ... scan, defrag, virus scan, reinstall PS ...
Also, setting up the physical memory usage to less than 50% in PS could help (considering that you have 256MB only) ...
Check in Device manager if any proggy is hogging the CPU or memory in the background, before you open PS ...

    Good luck

    Regards

yes it was a clean install on "safe mod"
Also, setting up the physical memory usage to less than 50% in PS could help
    set it up to 35%
Check in Device manager if any proggy is hogging the CPU or memory in the background, before you open PS
    disabled firewall & norton

    <1Mb for now

It seems weird that I can work for a while and then when try to rotate, resize, change colors or whatever it freezes!
Sometime it freezes during the splash screen when loading reading either fonts or styles.
Could some corrupt file or hardware issue?
All I want is to be able to help my gf with some color correction on some scans she has to work on ( these are realy big files <35MB)

Ok, then it's definelty not an issue where there isn't enough physical memory or the memory usage setting in Photoshop...

Here is a simple test I would like for you to perform...

Try booting into VGA-MODE by pressing F8 at system bootup and then try editing the image as you would in normal mode. Let me know if the system stil locks up..

Well I got this "Photoshop requires at least 256-color display to run" ?!

Oh, that's right! Sorry about that... I'm wondering if your video card driver is causing the problems you are having. I have seen problems where this was the case... Have you also tried loading a different version driver for your G400?

It seems that the culprit could be the motherboard
    Additional Information

The electrical problem on the affected motherboards is triggered by computer operations that use the pathway (called a bus) between the processor and the RAM for an extended number of microseconds. This problem can be triggered by the operating system or other applications; however, it often appears when using Photoshop because few other applications move memory as rapidly as Photoshop does.

This problem occurs with Dell Optiplex GX1 computers and ASUS P2B-F and P3B-F motherboards and may also occur with other motherboards.
    This is from http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/2256a.htm

Well...I will have to rely on my gf PS5 on her Mac.

    Thanks for your input.

Well, MAC and Adobe Photoshop as well as other graphic applications from Adobe go like peas and carrots, so.... No PC can match the performance you get using Photoshop on a MAC...

I dont have a prob using MAC it just that instead of using two machines you're using only one so productivity is low!

    EURIKA!

It loos like there is a work around:
-moved "extension" folder out of the reach of loading and no more freezes but it is a litl slow!!
