Alright, so I got the go-ahead from the wife on a new camera. I had been after a dslr for a while now, and after repeated attempts to take photos of a toddler in motion, see agrees we need something better. Right now I am looking at the Nikon D40 and the Sony A200. I have seen people recommend the baseline canon rebel, but she didn't like the UI of that one. My budget maxes out at $500, (I can get the nikon for $400 and the Sony for $475 on amazon).
Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these, or have other recommendations.

I am under the impression that the D40 is something of a revised and shrunken D50, I believe they actually use the same image sensor, or whatever it is that determines megapixel. |

I know they have recently reduced the price on the d40, but I went with the Sony Alpha quite a while ago. It had the newer 10mp image sensor, and as well has better compatibility with lenses. I have been really happy with, takes great shots, gets great battery. The menu layout on the nikon is supposed to be a bit better, but besides that. (and there is the funny story of how sears accidentally gave me the camera for free, best deal ever . |
