Renders and Wallpapers

Hello folks! My question stems from a desire to make larger renders, wallpapers, and PS3 themes to fit my 1920x1080 display on my 40 inch "monitor". I just really want to have some nice custom wallpapers and basically I want to use my anime collection and capture images from the DVDs. Can anyone explain or suggest a good way of going through this? I usually use PowerDVD to arrive at the image I want and then capture it but the quality is not perfect. I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 so the edit portion is not a problem and I only need to capture the correct size in a good quality. I would appreciate any insight and helpful tips. Thanks folks.

crap, I wish I knew more about 2D rendering/editing, otherwise I could help, my Photoshop skills are amateur-ish at best, but I usually do 3D renders in programs like Carrara 6 & others, where my knowledge is a bit more better, have rendered images as large as 6400x4800 LOL...

but anyways, I'm keeping an eye on this thread for others to post too, as I'd like to know how to use Photoshop (CS2) or GIMP to enhance an image like your talking about, especially since DVD resolution is considerably less than the res's your talking about, how to capture a clean image & increase it with out getting all pixelated or blurred or even clean it up to work right in the overall image.

i do photoshop alot so i might be able to help here. When your are capturing it from a DVD its res is only so high so when you try to expand it to fit your resolution it will distort. There is no fixing this because the Image you coppied was drawn to fit a low resolution and cannot be upscalled w/o pixelation.

what you will most likely be better off doing is get images from google or capturing alot of small images from your DVD to make your background for best clarity. It might be sloppy at first creating your first renders but it gets easier over time.

We actually had a pretty good thread going for awhile explaining the use of vectors in Illustrator (thread here). Unfortunately the images are gone . Using vectors you can actually resize the image with very little (if any) quality loss. I've never done it with DVD captures, and really was never any good at it but I think Out has made up a few tutorials that should help. You might search around and see if there are any out there, or even shoot him a pm and see what his input might be.
