Folks,
I have a
GeForce4 Ti4200 installed on an MSI board
K8T-Neo-V, 756 MB DDR Ram, Win2000 / SP4, but what should be a fine rig has problems.
Just turning the thing on reveals that the graphics card is not running as it should.
Not sure what version of NVIDIA drivers are running, as the screen seems to be locked up once the machine is turned on.
SYMPTOMS:
Initial boot-up seems fine and the basic display appears unremarkable.
But upon clicking on one of the home screen drill-down menus (e.g. START -> SETTINGS -> DEVICE MANAGER .... etc....
The menu takes on a ghost-like appearance instead of appearing substantial.
It may also look washed-out or scrambled. The machine locks up. Sometimes the freezing is just momentary, then the screen with black out for a second or two and reappears, now unfrozen.
Tasking the machine to go to yet another screen repeats the Artifacted Menu --> black-out / freezing and unfreezing process.
QUESTION:
This machine has more than enough horsepower and more than enough RAM, why is it choking even on basic tasks?
Cure?
Thanks in advance.
K.J.
