| Photoshop batch job - resizing images
Photoshop 7.0 - I have 200 vacation images and I want to resize them all down to 640x480 so I can put it up on a webpage. I've done this in the past one by one and now I have just way too many to do it that way. Is there any way I can automate this in Photoshop or any other program? Just the resizing... and saving to either another directory, renamed, or replaced. As long as it works.
Thanx.

Check out the "Actions" tab in Photoshop.
It's like a macro utility. You can make a new action, then have it record your steps as you resize and do whatever to one of your images. Then stop the recording, and on each of your next images your can just hit the playback button to perform all of those steps you just recorded. |

The only downside to the Photoshop --> ACTIONS is that I have to manually open each picture, then apply the action (or have the action bring up the open dialog - still manual clicks though). Can you program a macro to open files in a certain directory (one by one) and auto-apply the rest of the action? Having them all open at the same time to apply the action would probably use too much resources, if that were even possible.
If I can use Photoshop, I'd like to stick to it, since it has SAVE FOR WEB compression. Don't get me wrong though, the ACTIONS thing was at least a step up for me.
Thanx guys.

Yes, you can add OPEN as an Action, however, this would not be ideal in my opinion. This way would be more time consuming... And also, the action will attempt to open a file that you opened before. I don't think you can assign the action to open random files...
A better idea would be to select multiple files and open them all at once. And then record an action for as follows...
1. Press CTRL+O to navigate to a folder where all the images you want to change the size is located and hold down the CTRL button and select and then press Open.
2. You will notice that all the files will open up on the desktop in an orderly manner. They will all be cascaded. Open up the Actions windows and then press the blank document icon to create a new action and press RECORD.
3. Resize the first image and resize it to desired size and then click on the image just behind it and resize it. Now that you've created an action to be played, you can STOP the action recording.
4. Now just click the PLAY button or a function button if you assigned one as fast as your little fingers can click and you'll be done resizing images in no time..
