| ISO Drivers for Dolphin FASTUSB-007 Pencam
Greetings,
You would think something like this would be ridiculously easy, but it has not proven to be. My request is for the official driver for this cheapie digital cam and webcam, but I will be listing what I have learned in the meantime, to assist others should they have the same problem.
The other day I came into possession of a Dolphin Pencam FASTUSB-007. Naturally, I went to the manufacturers website looking for the drivers to make this little device work, but alas, getting the drivers have proved to be daunting.
Since the device is almost devoid of any make and model numbers, to include any laser-readable bar tags, I initially went with a physical description search, which led me here. USB Digital Still Cam Drivers - Everything USB Community
One of the searchers, versitalbear, put it succinctly when he wrote: Quote:
I have tried all the links in this area and some say I don't have permission to go to this page and others simply do not exist anymore and still some point to a bad zip file.
CAN YOU PEOPLE GET THIS RIGHT? If your going to offer your driver make sure that others can get to the place you put it or if you give out a link to a web source for the driver, make sure it is still there.
I have never seen such unprofessional crap in my life, I thought you people knew how to use your computers!
HOW DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU PEOPLE SAY!
| Let's see if we can help out Versitalbear and folks like him. 1. Establish make and model of the Device.
Here's what it looks like:
I established that the make and model was: Dolphin Pocket Digital Camera (FASTUSB-007) (PocketCam) or PenCam 2. Go to the manufacturer's website:
We did, at http://www.dolphinfast.com/
Dolphin Peripherals, LLC.
791 Foam Street
Monterey, CA 93940
Telefon: +1 (0)831 655-1977
Fax: +1 (0)831 655-1927
eMail: sales@dolphinfast.com / info@dolphinfast.com
The support page at www.dolphinfast.com/support.html wasn't terribly helpful because it demanded a laser tag code before it would let you further into driver support (they did, however, have the manual).
Looking for an FTP site, I found this ftp://ftp.dolphinfast.com/ but it required a login to gain access. E-mails to both the manufacturer's info and sales addresses are still unanswered. So, without a laser tag bar code, FTP password, or a response from the good people who work at Dolphin Peripherals, LLC, I was dead in the water. 3. Stop-Gap Driver
This is the stage I am at for the moment.
When plugging the USB cord into the computer, the message that spawns reads DIGITAL STILL CAMERA. Of course, without the proper driver, you are left with the options of disabling the device or skipping the installation.
But not all is lost.
I found that driver-guide.com has a driver which seems to work with this device, called Eye_Q_Mini__Driver.zip
I'm afraid I cannot give you the direct URL to that file. It would have to be deep-linked and Driver-Guide requires membership or other hoops to jump through prior to downloading its files.
But look for that file and you can use it in a pinch.
If, on the other hand, you have a way of getting the real device driver out to where the rest of us can use it, that would be outstanding.
Best,
-- K.J.

Have either you or the other person in question bothered to contact Dolphin Technical Support short of that w/o the specific model number or by shear luck someone having the original CD I don't see much else you could do.

Yes.
No response from Dolphin, as I stated, to include phone call. |

Here's some useful information.
By loading the Driver for Dual Mode DSC (2770) as device driver (in Win2000) and using PhoTags WebCam Express, I am pretty much getting full functionality from the camera, but you seem to always have to go back and pre-select your TWAIN device if you have more than one driver in your viewer applications program.
Don't have a direct URL for the Dual Mode DSC(2770) but search using that term plus Digital Still Camera and that should give you the driver you need. |
