    Website Tables?

Greetings all. I'm currently working on a website for my Counterstrike clan. I know the bare basics for making websites, a little HTML, and can make basic pictures in Photoshop. What I'm interested in, is making it look a little more professional. What im looking for specifically is the layout and design. I dont know how to make everything blend together. Like the banner, and the toolbar. For example, take this site. Look at the top of the screen, where the TechIMO symbol blends in with the links, and the lines and all that. THis is prolly confusing, but im confused, lol. My buddy said its all done by tables. Each part of the picture is in a table. Can anyone enlighten me with your knowledge?

    BTW, the website is http://crazyassassins.web1000.com
Check it out, tell me what you think

Basically, what you do here, is make one big picture in Photoshop: Whatever you want it too look like when it's all assembled. Then use Photoshop to slice the image into pieces and you can even have Photoshop make the html file for you now (if you have 7, I don't know if 6 did it or not). I don't really know how to explain it better than that. I rarely use broken images like that. I prefer more text and java based affects as it takes less time to load the webpage that way.

If you think if anything specific (how to get the tables to line up right, how to get rid of spaces or lines, etc) post back. There are a few of us who think we know what we're doing.

Awsome! Thats what I needed to know, thanks Whir. I totally understand what your talking about now. Now, regarding Photoshop, yes I do have 7, last night I tried taking an image, and cutting it into a bunch of little pictures. But I couldnt find the right tool. What would I use to crop the picture into smaller ones? And then of course, how would I make it fit perfectly on the webpage ( no lines )

There is a slice tool on the toolbar that looks like this:

Click on that, and then drag over the squares you want the image to break into. It's kind of weird at first, but it will make sense after a bit.

When you have them all sliced apart how you need them, go to File, then Save for Web. I swear there was a way to save the entire picture and have Photoshop make the html file for you, but I can't remember how to do it now. I'll post back if I remember!

When the save for web window pops up, you just click on the slice tool in the new window and select the slice you want to save, then save it. You'll figure it out in a few clicks.

Hah, I remembered. Since you have PS7, I assume it came with Image Ready, if not, you're kind of out of luck on the saving as HTML.

Open ImageReady, and do the same thing as you would in Photoshop to cut the image apart, then when you've got it divided up, go to File and Save Optimized As. You want to save it as html and images. This will save all the images and create the html file for you whever you specify.

    Good luck!
