I work for a company involved in digital image printing..... lossy compression, image format and such are terms I am accustomed to hearing in our graphics department.
PNG format? I am not accustomed to hearing about PNG inside my employers realms - not at all - but I already knew about it from Linux - seems that Linux likes PNG for such things as Icons and wallpaper. Now I have a website to send them to.
Nice work OuTpaTienT!

I was a Dreamcast h4x0r. The first time I heard of PNG was when a util came out to put your own logo on the DC splash screen. It used the PNG format. |

Nice article, may be worth mentioning that you can actually get perfect quality jpeg compression if you opt to use "lossless jpeg" (obsolete, poor compression ratio & not well supported) or, I think, jpeg-ls (better compression but also has poor support). I assume you are talking about baseline jpeg compression, which is indeed incapable of ever producing "perfect" quality output. Not that it really matters, I was just bored at work

Hey does anyone know much/anything about jpeg2000? Cuz photoimpact allows that as a format, has the option for lossless compression.
Never really used it tho, figured nothing much would support it since i had never heard anything about it .
