My son needs to upgrade his Video Card in order to play the new Deus Ex Invisible War game he just purchased. The video requirements call for:
nVidia GeForce 3TI/4TI/FX (MX not supported) or
ATi Radeon 8500/9xxx or higher (Pixel Shader required)
256mb RAM
Right now he's using integrated S3 ProSavage 8 Video but his Biostar M7VIG Pro mobo (VIA KM266 / VT8235 chipset) does have an AGP slot. Also he has 256mb PC133 sdram but I'm thinking of upgrading him to 512mb PC2100 DDR at the same time. He OS is Win2K Pro and his chip is an AMD XP1600+.
He does not have a lot of money right now so I was looking at this card:
CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "LA-FX20-H" -RETAIL $59.00 LINK
Do you guys think this would hold him for a while or do you have any other recommendations?
Thanks

Heya Xeriod....how you doing?
I would buy the ATI 9200 over the 5200., but I'd wait for more more comments on this one.
I have a 9200 on laptop and its fast! |

The card should work.

The 5200 makes me wanna throw up, so does the words "S3", "Savage", and "Virge". My suggestion is save up more money and buy at least a 5600nu, or a 9600np. Trust me, they will last much longer. |

as acritc fox said the higherend cards will last longer, but since im sure money is an issue, this card will hold its own. definitely not top of the line. it is like the mx version of the fx series.... lowend of the higher cards....
