Here's a brain teaser...
Ok this is the project for all you crazies out there. I am at my wits end with this so here goes…
So I brought my Rig to my buds to play games. Everything worked fine and we rocked some stuff on COD. Well I packed up two days later and brought my stuff home always careful not to bump anything. I put my Rig back together and turn it on. I notice that the colors on the display are messed up. I get to my desktop when it is really noticeable; the red color channel is gone. I curse, thinking I messed my monitor up. So I hook my monitor up to my little bros Rig and notice that everything is fine. (Wipe Me Brow) So what could it be? VGA card perhaps? I swap my GeForce 3 Ti200 out for a BFG Asylum Fx5200. I boot up and still the same thing. WTF?! So I used the system restore to bring it back a week thinking that something in windows got screwed up, still the same problem. Red channel shows up as black.
So now here is my question, what could be making my video not display the red channel on only my Rig? I have no idea, maybe you guys know.
Thanks in advance,

Might check the pins on your monitor plug. Perhaps one got bent.

Make sure the monitor cable to your video card is plugged in properly. I had the problem where my monitor was tinted green / yellow.

No no. It's not the monitor. It worked in my Bro's Rig. So it cant be the monitor.
After swapping the cards I would think that the cards would be seated just fine. When you began, we ended.

After booting to windows, did you go into the display settings to see if anyting looked out of place? have you tried those two video cards in another computer?

The display setting are fine. As for the 5200 I know that is fine, my cousin was using that before I got it. The Ti200 I havent used in another Rig for a while now.

Coz the other system is old and lacks AGP ports. Otherwise I would have done that.

But what are the chances that the 5200 went bad between my cuz and I?

SO i took my VGA cable next to my video card and twisted and bent it. The red channel came back. Thats the good news.
Bad news, the cable is dying. Any way to replace this VGA cable? When you began, we ended.

Wow, good thinking on the VGA cable, i iwll have to remember that one. You will probably have to search the internet for a new VGA cable. I am not sure you will find one though. But if you do, it would probably just require taking to monitor apart and soldering the new cable in place. That is only a guess though and i could be wrong.

How old is your monitor?
Is your VGA cable permanently attached to your monitor...or can it be detached? If it can be detached from the monitor...I'm sure you know you can buy a replacement. (Fry's, Best Buy, New Egg, CompUSA)
If it's permanently attached...well...you might be out of luck. Do you know exactly where the short is on the cable? I suppose you could twist the cable to where it isn't shorting, and then using ties to keep the cable in that position (of course I wouldn't ever transport the CRT again). However, if it were me and I couldn't afford to purchase a new CRT... I'd strip the cable and fix the short if I knew approximately where the short was in the cable...or, another option is that you could cut the cable and splice on a newly purchased cable...or you could open the monitor and detach it internally and replace it with a new one...that is if you feel comfortable splicing wires and opening your monitor.
I guess another way to look at it could be that now you have a reason to upgrade your monitor!

[]Rig--***short------------------{}monitor
I think that the short is right after the VGA conector. And it is permanently connected to my monitor which is quite depressing.
And yes rastorize, I am just as poor and cant afford another CRT. IT sucks not having any money.
See that black cylinder looking thingy after the VGA connection. I think the short is between that and the VGA connection.CableWhen you began, we ended.

What brand of monitor do you have and how old is it? Maybe it's still under warranty?
Another option is to call the manufacturer, explain the issue, and see if they can ship you a replacement cable. Looking around the Internet, I've found a few posts related to your problem, and their solutions were the same...
-they contacted the manufacturer
-the manufacturer charged ~$15 for the new cable (plus shipping)
-turned off the monitor and waited for 24 hours (a safety reason I suppose)
-opened the monitor
-disconnected the cable internally and replaced with new cable

It's a Mitsubishi Monitor and it's not under warranty...
Were those other guys still under warranty?
Did they mention the difficulty in replacing the VGA cord? When you began, we ended.

Be careful. Like i said, my monitor started tinting green / yellow, i fixed the problem, it was the VGA cable, but, it died within a few months and had to get a replacement. It may not have been connected (it was a very old IBM 17 incher). just warnin ya
