virtual memory is on your hard drive, hence, 'virtual', you cant see it, but it's there on the HDD. right click my compuer, on the desktop, then go down to properties, advanced, perfromance options, and under virtual memory, click change, and you can change the virtual memory there, try 500MB-1000MB, that'll be enough

Virtual memory is used when Windows needs more memory than your machine has. Example: you have 256mb of ram and what you are doing in Windows requires 300mb. So Windows writes 44mb of the data to the hard drive in a special file called a "swap file". It is much slower than using real ram memory but solves the problem of insufficient ram. 10-12 years ago ram was very expensive, I remember paying $160 for 4mb. At that time all machines were short on ram. It is not as much a problem today but the virtual memory system is still used. Hope that sheds some light on the subject.

it sounds like you were wanting to buy some virtual memory because windows was giving a message that it was out...this indicates that you are indeed using the swap file....if you want to get some more real memory it will hep you system a great deal of difference in speed....if you tell us your system specs we can help you get some of the right type of memory

if you are hitting the paging file hard ( as you seem to be ) I would reccomend going to crucial.com (or similar) and buynig more ram for that box ( unless it is already maxed out )
