ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256mb or Nvidia Geforce FX 5950 256mb?
I heard plenty postive and good results about ATI Radeon's 9800 to be better than Geforce FX 5950. What's up with the change in digits with the FX one? Any difference? From 5900 to 5950...and what's the difference between the regular Radeon 9800 and the XT one? Which graphics card would you guys pick? I would go with the Radeon
5950 is about 40$ cheaper, and in the benches, i see no real performance difference worth 40$, and the fact that, no matter how much ATIs drivers have improved, they still arent as good as nVidia's.
so i would go with the 5950U

If you are looking into spending that much for a video card, you can get the next top-of-the-line card within a month (or less). I would probably go with the 5950 Ultra. Once it's overclocked, not even the fastest 9800XT can beat it.
I'd go with the ATI... Its only slightly slower in OpenGL, but a lot better in DX9 intensive games.
I've owned both ATI and nVidia cards. Prior to my 9800 Pro, I had a Ti4400. I haven't had a single issue with drivers with either one. People who say ATI drivers aren't as good as nVidia's are simply living in the past. Similarly to people who say AMD's run hotter than Intels. Neither of which are true today.
