Net working
I know that this is old to all of you on this board but i`m just getting into this.. i like playing pc game and have two computers at my place that i`m trying to connect..
this is what i have
1) hp with windows 98 upgraded to windows xp
2) new dell 4550
both computer have ethernet card in them--i bought a hub and have 25 foot cables that go with them
i have hook them together went to my control panel and tried to set up the net working in there but i don`t think i did it right
i have read that you are suppose to go into the computers and put some number in so that each know to talk to the other
like i said if someone could basically walk me through this i would really appreciate it.. thanks in advance for anything you can send my way..................Baby

Welcome to the forum!
what games are you trying to play?
for instance I remember in Need For Speed 3 I think you had to put in the IP address
you can go to the command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes) and it will tell you the ip address of the comp. If you are not on cable internet it'll probably be 169.254.x.x with the "x"s being some numbers.

I`m playing a game called Diablo ii expansion--but i want to connect the computers so that i can play them at the house.. playing on the net--i have friends to play with..at home it is a challenge to try to find all the great stuff that is easy to find on the net.. you only have a small space to put the things you find..so i want to connect with my other computer and have it enter the same game as i`m in first to transfer gear and things also to play with a friend that likes to do the same thing
i have a modem--i know that if i use them both on line that it will cut my connection speed in half or atleast that what i`m been told by a friend that does that with her computers...hope that this helps you out thanks.......Baby
