Is it wise to get the 9800 pro 128 mb now? I'm thinking about getting it now, since it's at a pretty good price...around 200 bucks off newegg. How long do you guys figure this card will last (for running games)?
edit: add specs
Heres my specs right now:
2.8 xeon
1024 mb ram
8700 firegl
36 scsi 320 + 200 gb hd's
thats it

What are you upgrading from? More importantly, what are the rest of your system specs? |

What Slinky said.
The 9800pro is one of the best cards you can get. There is only about 10FPS (on some games anyways) between the 9800XT and the pro, after all there is only a small MHZ difference. So it is hard to say how long exactly but it’s pretty much the longest lasting card you can get at this time. You may want to hold off on that though for when the next release of ati cards hit, the prices will drop on the rest of the line. |

i go for a lower end version of the new generation cards, they'll be about $300 and be worth the short wait. |

My video card can run Unreal Tournament 2004 alright, I use medium settings and 1280*1024 resolution (demo). It runs smooth. But why I want to upgrade is that my card dosn't support a lot of games. It is a workstation card, mostly for CAD stuff. There are many games I want to play but I cannot, as my card simply dosn't support them.
So how long till those new cards from ATI come out? |

Even if you don't opt for these newer cards, the prices of the 9800's might drop shortly after

That's what I'm doing - I have no job, and the crystal ball says that after then X800's release, the 9800 Pro's price will come down to like $150.
Just a guess though. |
