doom3, hl2, and all the other new shooters are basically what im upgrading my system for... but there's no way right now to tell which card would be better for any of these games (at least not that i know of)
that's why its so hard to decide! >_<
and unless one is blowing the other one away by 10 fps or more.. i doubt id notice a difference anyway
it all comes down to availability, price (for higher end cards) and sound! - cuz i built my system to be as quite as possible... if the 6800 was MUCH louder than the X800 i would definately not choose it
its so hard to study with a loud computer, and no, turning it off is not an option
i guess i could always mod the HSF on the card.. but that would cost more money and i dont really want to mess with that |

Hi.
You can't go wrong with either the X800 (Pro/XT) or the 6800 (GT/Ultra). You can get the Pro or the GT for $300-$400. The other two are more expensive ($500-$600) and scarce.
If you are a thrifty sort. You can get a FX5950 or a 9800XT new or even on eBay for cheaper.

well there is a way to tell which would be better http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...i-x800-21.html
there are plenty of other benchmarks, but they all pretty much say that the nvidia is a touch better. You also pay 20% more for it. Yor choice.
Its been sooo long since i was in the market for a graphics card. I still have a geforce 3 from about 4 years ago. It runs wc3 just fine i tell you what tho. |

I said this before and i'll say it again!!!! the 5950 and 9800xt are the worst cards u can waste ur money on, first of all the difference in speed is minimal (5950-5900U and 9800xt-9800pro) and second the 9800xt is more expensive than the x800pro, the x800pro is a good choice if u run games at high res and/or AA&AF, because it hasn't shown that its that much faster at low res. with AA&AF off |

Agreed!
But considering availability and price- you can get the last gen cheaper, and especially if they ever ramp up availability of the next gen cards. |
