I would reboot in safe mode(It seems like it's doing that now, right), and go to Device Manager(press the M$ shortcut key<looks like a Windows icon> and pause/break key together, click on hardware, Device Manager, display adapters. Double-click to open you vid card and click drivers. There's an option to "Rollback drivers". Hopefully, that'll work.

If it doesn't, put the drivers cd in the cd-rom and tell the computer to find the drivers automatically(in the same place as the rollback option is.

What prompted you to update the drivers; were you having issues?

Keep us posted...

sorry for double posting but this is how my comp usually starts up....ok u see the word sony on the screen..then the black screen with all the info on drives or w.e then the windows home loading then the login screen..for e if i choose any of the safe modes, normal startup or the last known config they all go to the loading screen for 1 sec and then the sony thing pops up again and i have to choose again

You should be able to boot to the cd-rom(may have to change boot order in bios), so I might try booting to the disk containing the XP OS, and see if you can do a repair install...

When you comp first starts to boot up, you'll see an option like "Press DEL to enter setup" or "press F2 to enter setup" (sometimes it's f8). When you do that, you'll go into the bios. The bios(basic input output system) is like a mini-OS just for the motherboard, and different mobos have different bios', but they all are kinda the same thing. You need to navigate around in there(be careful not to make changes you don't want) and find "change boot order". It usually is set by default to boot in this order: Floppy,HDD 0, cd-rom,... You need to change it to boot from the cd-rom first, so that the computer knows to boot from the cd instead of the HDD (hard disk drive). Save the changes, and reboot (and it might not be a bad idea to replace the original vid card, until you're up-and-running again).

On second thought, you may want to try replacing the original vid card and see if you can get a full boot-up first(with the driver recovery disk in the cd-rom).

It's easy to mess up installing drivers for ATI cards, and the website isn't the most user-friendly site out there.
