Need help making a decision

I've got the components I want for my new computer chosen, but I'm still not sure what to do about the video card. The processor in the system is an AMD Athlon 64 3400+ using an Asus motherboard (should those affect anything). The video card I've had my mind set on is the Nvidia Geforce FX 6800 Ultra.. I know it's expensive but I've going all out and building a real nice system. The only problem is I'm worried as to how long it'll be until I'll have to upgrade this card. I know Doom 3 is going to be released soon, and this card was basically designed for that game, which is my main intent. Are a new series of cards going to be released right after I buy this card? Should I wait? Will this card last me a few years, or would an upgrade in the immediate future be necessary?
P.S. where could I actually find the nvidia version of this card? I've seen eVGA.. BFG.. Chaintech.. but not actually nVidia

i might wait a little while, but mainly for the price to drop. There won't be a new version for quite some time.

To give you an example: i have an fx5900 ultra which i got last august. The 6800 ultra is the next card that came out and made mine non-top-of-the-line. That is 10 months after i got it. Since you're getting it now right when it's being released you should be able to get a year out of it before the next gen even comes out, and possibly another year before games come out that it can't run really really well.

Also nvidia only makes the gpu, there's no such thing as an "nvidia brand" card. Like Intel or AMD. You can't find an "Intel brand" computer.

well if you really want a NICE NICE system, look for the dual PCI express i guess, since you worry about your Graphic Card being outdated. This way, when cards come out you'll still be able to bridge two 6800 Ultra together and out perform 'em.
