VGA to DVI connector (with full performance?)

The LCD monitor I just bought, and is shipping to me, I believe only has the 15pin vga like most CRT'S. It is unhookable from the back of the monitor..

My video card supports DVI (along with standard vga). However, I want to know if buying the VGA-to-DVI adapapter will actually give better picture, or is it merely just for compatibility? Any help would be appreciated. or could I just buy a dvi wire and plug it into the back of the monitor and in the pc? (Since it coems off the back of the monitor)

It's just a connection adapter. DVI-I outputs offer a digital and an analog copy of the same screen image. Through a VGA cable, you'll always be using the analog copy.

What are you talking about?

If your monitor only has a D-sub (VGA) connector, you will have to use the matching analog connector on your video card.

Converting the digital DVI output of your video card to analog with an external converter simply duplicates the work which your video card already does for the D-sub (VGA) connector. Save the time, money, and effort, and just let your video card do its job.

My video card has both for digital and d-sub vga. I know LCD's are generally reccomended on DVI. The lcd I ordered has a removeable wire in the back witch is the vga wire. Can I just buy a DVI wire to run from the monitor to my DVI port instead of using vga? since the wire isnt connected permantly into the monitor? or do they use a different connection on the monitor?

overclocked i think lcd monitors come as either analogue or digital.

i don't think it matters how u connect an analogue lcd to your card....either to vga or dvi........the image quality will still be the same............

If your monitor doesn't have a DVI connector, it doesn't support DVI. That's about as straightforward as it gets.

Most "cheap" flat panels, for whatever reason, will only have a D-sub connector.
