External monitor for laptop

I'm trying to run Rise of Nations using an external monitor on my laptop. In years past, this was done by simply connecting the monitor to the laptop, but thanks to Win XP, this is no longer that simple. I got the multiple monitor feature to work, but Rise of Nations will only open up on the laptop monitor. I'm using the latest version of NView, and my graphics card drivers are up-to-date. It's a NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go 32M, btw. Since this was easily accomplished with older technology, there HAS to be a way to get this to work today....right? Can anyone help me out?

Most laptops have a key or key combination to toggle between laptop screen, external monitor and or run both at the same time. What make and model of laptop do you own?

Go into your nview properties and make the external monitor the "default" display. This should allow video to show up on the monitor

Thanks for the help. I found that the FN + F4 key toggles external monitor use. I knew it had to be something simple.

Perhaps you may want to try www.maxivista.com, but only if you have two computers. Maxivista allows to use a secondary PC as an additional (dual) display of your primary box.
